Trivial Links: How we spent our November blogging time…

Look, just because I’ve neglected my 3-day-a-week posting schedule here at In Pursuit of the Trivial doesn’t mean I’m being lazy.

I’ve simply been busy (which in some contexts, is certainly a suitable pseudo-synonym for lazy).

Here’s a look at work being done this November as the return of “Five Signs” looms…

  • Ira Glass came to Syracuse and made my journalistic career at the ripe age of 24. I interviewed Glass,  had my interview picked up by two local and one national outlet and then made a low-grade video tribute to all of it (while managing to sneak in my L4D2 fanaticism).

I hate to have long periods of time without posts, even professional blogs avoid it knowing it could deter traffic in the short-term future. Unlike professional bloggers, I make my living working with students. Two weeks of 14-hour a day student training isn’t optional.

Instead of leaving the site completely dark until late August, consider this a heads up that Trivial Links could be the only thing seen around here for a bit.

Can you like TAL and avoid being pretentious?

National Public Radio has a large audience and This American Life is among its most popular programs. It’s been the launching pad for popular authors such as David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell (and features cool guests like sex columnist Dan Savage or comedians like Mike Birbiglia). The TAL Wikipedia states that it consistently ranks 1 or 2 in the weekly iTunes Most Downloaded Podcasts. Host Ira Glass has even been quoted as saying their listenership grew by at least half a million through that avenue alone.
